It should be no surprise that delicious examples made from Riesling are popping up, as the grape has proven to make excellent still versions in the Finger Lakes. The bright fruit and racy acidity of the variety lends well to savory sekt-style examples or boisterous, fruit-forward Charmat-method and forced-carbonated bottles. It has the potential to be even more than it is today. I’m even more interested to see how this might evolve with a few years in the cellar. It’s very tasty and almost hard to resist, even as a dry wine, but your mind is definitely saying “this needs time, this needs time” even as you reach for the bottle. It is in fine balance, with a trace of sugar around the edges. The juicy finish and the tension serve this well, but don’t think it is just a mindlessly shrill wine. The Reserve Riesling is deeper and lusher, more approachable now. It’s more a matter of style than quality. Should you? Well, I’d say yes, but reasonable minds might differ. ![]() You might note that you can step up from the “Reserve” Riesling to this for an extra $2. The 2020 Riesling Ingle Vineyard has 8.1 grams per liter of residual sugar, 8.5 of total acidity and 11.4% alcohol. Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022 Couched in lemon-lime flavors, this has a flinty, saline tang to the texture, the palate focused and lively. This one is an amalgam from the entire site, a cool, dry place that produces riesling with persistence and drive. ![]() Heron Hill submitted seven rieslings from Ingle-micro-selections of the largest vineyard on Canandaigua Lake. If you like them sweeter or fruitier, this is not for you. ![]() I’ll be interested to see if this can hold form or improve in a couple of years, but right now it is a fine choice at a nice price point. It’s elegant in the mid-palate, dancing across the tongue. Fresh, balanced and lively, this adds a juicy, tense finish, and the fruit occasionally asserts itself. I haven’t been liking a lot of what I’m seeing from this vintage (to be sure, there haven’t been a lot of examples yet), but this seems awfully nice. The 2021 Dry Riesling comes in with eight grams per liter of residual sugar, 7.9 of total acidity and 12% alcohol. Crying out flavorful fish dishes like spicy fish tacos or Thai red curry. The palate is dry with a lofty line of laser-like, lemony acidity and a slightly chalky texture. Wine Enthusiast - ĭelicately crafted from one of the Finger Lakes’s best known producers, this opens with a lifted aromas of white peach, lemon-lime and florals, with a honeyed underbelly. Made from fruit grown on Kueka Lake and Seneca Lake. Good depth on the mid-palate for the challenging vintage, with some wet-stone character at the long, crisp finish.
